Awesome Crossing Redux!

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Are you ready? Awesome Crossing Redux is out! This is one of the remakes I had created for the Awesome DVD that is now on hold. It contains new jokes, as well as the old jokes intact (but REANIMATED WOOOOAH) Since I’ve put the DVD on hold I figured I’d release the work I’ve done for it so that everyone can see (instead of making you pay for it). There are a couple more to come, as well as some other works, too! Stay tuned and check out Awesome Crossing Redux!

I’m back home now, but only for today, tomorrow I head out to San Diego Comic Con where I’m meeting up with everyone who’s anyone on Newgrounds! After AX I spent some very nice much needed time with my love, Suzy. But now it’s time to work work work for tomorrow! I’ll be updating my blog again on a regular basis don’t worry, I only didn’t because I was so faaarrr, I ran so far awaaaaay.

I may update from Ross’s Laptop at Comic Con, and I’m sure you’ll spot me plenty of times on the Live Streaming Newgrounds Comic Con Webcam! Where, maybe if you call the Rubber Phone during filming, you’ll be able to talk to me AND see me!

AX Idol Audition

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

This is the video from the audition process of AX Idol. We had to audition first, and then 5 finalists were chosen. This audition got me in the top 5!!

Anime Expo just BLOWS ME AWAY.

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Man I just got home from an amazing week. I was attending Anime Expo 2008 in Los Angeles, California and had one of the greatest times of my life. I got to meet Ross “RubberNinja” O’Donovan, Channel Cat, Insane Kenny, AQ, Skraggy, Kira “Rina-Chan” Buckland, Joshua “Tomamoto” Tomar, Nalem, Spanio, Wonchop, Princess Aurora, Spencer, and even more I didn’t mention. And of course I visited there with my lovely Suzy on my arm. It was the biggest blast on planet Earth it was like a 7 in the richter scale yeah.

Among all the incredible festivities involved with the expo itself, friends and I had our own fun. Personally, I cosplayed Solid Snake with Suzy as Meryl by my side which was my first cosplaying experience, and certainly one of my favorite experiences ever. A lot of people wanted pictures and if any of you have any of them feel free to send them my way (especially if we took a picture WITH you). Much mischiefing happened:

We IHOPed and went to Little Tokyo and the Toy District where we oogled counterfeit toys and cheap belts. We cheered on Skraggy as he downed a gallon of sugar doused coffee.

I also entered AX Idol, which was a HUGE blast. I ended up not winning, but they said they were still interested in me :O! Here are some videos of me competing in the finals!

And this is a better clip of the final dubbing product:

BTW if I find more videos of AX in general involving our group I will put them up periodically for you all to see.

I also got to speak to David Hayter which was incredible. Didn’t really get to say much but I was so humbled by his references to Metal Gear Awesome and his appreciation of it. He’s a really funny light-hearted guy and it was an honor to meet him.

SPEAKING OF MEETING.

So backstage at AX Idol there was a prize table and I was like “hey prizes lemme check this out” because aside from the trip to Japan and audition with Bang Zoom I didn’t know what the winners got. I’m looking at each of the prizes just kinda commenting on them and I see a box that says “Award Steve Blum” or something. And I was like “why does this box say Steve Blum on it?” The guy on the other side of the table signaled me to look to my side, and there was this guy with his back to me right next to me. I instinctively replied with “what?” until I suddenly realized what he was implying. I turned to the guy and said “… is that?” and he nodded yes.

I was like DAAAYUMN.

I sat down and thought about what I was going to say to him. The one thing I really wanted to know was if it was really him who commented on my blog a while back about Serge of Derberus. I finally apparoched him, introduced myself, and we talked. He liked my voice work! I was so flattered. And then I asked about my blog, and he was a bit confused about what I was referencing, but he said he’d check it out, and to give him my web address. I wrote it down for him and he said “OHHHHHH yeah I remember that site!”

I was like DAAAAYUMN.

I told him how much of an inspiration he’s been for me and we shook hands and it was amazing.

Ross also decided, since the entire cast of Gamer Tonight was at AX, we had to make a live action Gamer Tonight episode. Filmed and mixed in one night, it’s simply the funniest thing on the planet.

It’s really a bummer that all of this had to end, but hopefully Comic-Con will be just as insanely fun. But I’m certainly going to miss everyone, and I can’t wait to do it again! Thanks everyone for coming, and thanks Suzy for being there with me :D .
